The physicians and staff within the Hematologic Malignancy Program take full advantage of the outstanding resources available at Duke to provide a combination of the very best in patient care with the newest, most encouraging clinical research opportunities for patients with hematologic malignancies.
Our team treats hundreds of patients annually with various types of leukemias, lymphomas, myelomas, myeloproliferative disorders, myelodysplastic disorders, aplastic anemia, paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuremia and other less common malignancies of the blood system.
Patients benefit from a multidisciplinary approach to their care at each stage of their therapy while at Duke. Those of us in medicine, surgery, radiation therapy, and stem cell and marrow transplantation who specialize in the care of patients with hematologic malignancies meet at least weekly to review difficult cases, debate new therapy plans, and formulate treatment algorithms.
Patients are treated within a matrix of support with the care team involving physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician's assistants, and pharmacists discussing patients on a daily basis. A full range of patient support services are available, as well, and patients are encouraged to take advantage of these opportunities for themselves and their family whenever needed.
